A49 diversion routes after serious lorry and car crash near Hereford
Diversion routes are in place following a serious car and lorry crash on the outskirts of Hereford[1] this morning (Saturday, September 7). The A49 is shut in both directions between the A466 and the B4339.
Emergency services were called to the scene and the road is expected to remain closed for some time. Motorists have been urged to leave extra time for their journeys and to find alternative routes while the closure is in place.
National Highways said: “The A49 in Herefordshire is closed in both directions between the A466 near Kingsthorne and the B4399 near Grafton following a serious collision.
“Emergency services including West Mercia police are in attendance. Service providers are also in attendance assisting with traffic management. The closure is expected to remain ongoing for several hours.”
West Mercia Police added: “Please be aware that due to a serious road traffic collision on the A49 between the turning for the A466 and turning for Callow a road closure is currently in place. Officers are currently at the scene and ask for you to find an alternative route.”
The following diversion routes are in place for motorists to follow.
Northbound:
- Exit the A49/A466 and turn left onto the A466 southbound
- Continue along the A466 southbound to its junction with the B4348
- At the junction turn right onto the B4348 westbound.
- Continue along the B4348 westbound to its junction with the A465
- At the junction, turn right onto the A465 northbound.
- Continue along the A465 northbound to the signal controlled roundabout junction with the A49 to re-join.
Southbound:
- At the signal controlled roundabout junction of A49/A465, take the exit to the A465 southbound.
- Continue alonmg the A465 southbound to the junction with the B4348 and turn left
- Continue along the B4348 eastbound to the junction with the A466
- At the junction turn left along the A466 northbound
- Continue along the A466 northbound to the junction with the A49 and re-join.
