A thief who stole a van and sparked a police chase on the A9 was still on the run this afternoon after the vehicle crashed near Ralia and they fled the scene.

Officers were called to the trunk road near Pitlochry shortly after 9am on Tuesday to reports of the theft.

A police pursuit ensued, with the van traced to the B9150 near Ralia, south of Newtonmore, where it had crashed.

A teenage passenger - a 16-year-old girl - was injured in the crash and has been arrested. Police were still trying to find the driver at the time of writing.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Shortly after 9.05am on Tuesday, 24 September 2024, police were called to the A9 at Pitlochry following a report of a van having been stolen.

"Following a police pursuit, the vehicle was traced to the B9150, near Ralia, Newtonmore, where it had crashed. A 16-year-old female passenger was injured and has been arrested. Enquiries are ongoing to trace the driver of the van.

"The B9150 has now re-opened."
