Ban and big fine for M5 driver speeding in sports car

Benjamin Clarke was caught speeding on the M5 near junction 5 (Droitwich) when he was driving at 'over 40mph' in a Maserati.

The 49-year-old was fined when the case was heard at Worcester Magistrates Court on Wednesday, September 18.

Clarke of Walsall Road, Little Aston, Sutton Coldfield, was captured speeding by an automatic camera device on January 17 between junction 5 and 4A in the northbound carriageway, exceeding a temporary variable speed limit.

Clarke was fined £461, ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £184 and court costs of £90.  He was advised he had until October 16 to pay the outstanding fines and costs.

A collection order was made, investing the court with additional powers to recover the money.

He was also disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving licence for 56 days and his driving record endorsed. 

The defendant's guilty plea was taken into account when imposing sentence.
