Campaign for 20mph speed limit on major A-road nears conclusion
In July, an e-petition was lodged with Wiltshire Council to review the speed limit on the A346 Salisbury Road through Marlborough.
Residents who wish to support the idea have until Saturday, September 28 to do so.[1]
As reported at the time, the resident who submitted the petition called for a 20mph speed limit between the junction with George Lane and London Road and the roundabout for Jennings Road and Blenheim Road.

While Wiltshire Council turned off its speed cameras years ago, the petition urges councillors to consider enforcing a lower speed limit to protect pedestrians from the “unnecessary risk” of speeding vehicles.
It said: “This is a particularly busy stretch of road, with significant traffic of all types, including big lorries.
“It is also a regular crossing point for school children, both primary and secondary, as well as park users and their dogs.
“Traffic regularly accelerates to high speeds between the roundabouts, presenting unnecessary risk to pedestrians of all types.
“A 20mph limit would reduce the risk to pedestrians and would make no difference to road users. A camera would ensure that the limit is understood and enforced.”
