A lane on the M53 was closed after a car burst into flames. Emergency services were called to the M53 Southbound, between junction six at Hooton and junction seven at Overpool, at around 2.25pm on Thursday (September 5).

Merseyside Fire and Rescue service were alerted at 2.25pm and on the scene at 2.35pm. When firefighters arrived at the scene, one vehicle was found to be on fire on the hard shoulder. Crews used a breathing apparatus and a hose jet to put out the blaze.

The fire was put out just 3pm. Crews made the vehicle safe for recovery and left the incident with National Highways. One lane was closed. Traffic monitoring site Inrix said: "One lane closed and queueing traffic due to vehicle fire on M53 Southbound from J6 (Hooton) to J7 B5132 Netherpool Road (Overpool)."
