Derbyshire drivers are being warned of long delays after a serious crash between a lorry and a car has closed the M1 motorway.

National Highways[2] is reporting that all four lanes of the M1 southbound between junctions J28 and J26 have been closed. The incident is not expected to clear before 1pm this afternoon.

Southbound traffic is being diverted via the hollow square diversion symbol: Exit the M1 at J28 onto the A38[3] westbound and continue for approx. 6 miles. At Hartshay Interchange, take the first exit onto the A610[4] and continue for approx. 10 miles. Re-join the M1 at J26

The impact of the closure has also led to congestion further north, with 20 minute delays on the M1 southbound between junctions J29 and J28
