Driver dies following serious crash near Somerset border

A man has died following a serious single-vehicle crash not far from the Somerset border. driver in his 50s has died after a serious single-vehicle crash in Devon. Police were called to the incident that took place on the A375 between Honiton and Sidmouth[1] on Friday, September 13[2].

The incident saw a Renault Master van crash[3] near Sidbury. Police, fire and ambulance crews[4] were called to the scene at 10.30am, while an air ambulance was also in attendance. The A375 was closed for almost 10 hours as an investigation was carried out. Police are now appealing for witnesses, or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.

Devon and Cornwall Police said. The driver of the van, a man in his 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin has been informed, as DevonLive reports.[5]

A statement from Devon and Cornwall Police said: “A man has died following a single-vehicle collision on the A375 at Sidbury, Devon. Emergency services were notified at approximately 10.30am on Friday 13 September to a collision involving a Renault Master van.

“Devon & Cornwall Police, South West Ambulance Service, Devon and Somerset Fire Rescue and Devon Air Ambulance attended the incident.

“Unfortunately, as a result of the incident, the driver, who was in his 50s, was pronounced deceased at the scene. His next of kin were informed.

“The A375 was closed to allow for a forensic examination of the scene and recovery of the vehicle. Officers from the Roads Policing Team are appealing for witnesses of the incident to come forward quoting log 0229 13/09/2024.”
