Gran killed in horror crash named after six horses bolt to Scots road

A GRAN who was tragically killed in a Renfrewshire road smash has been named.

Lesley McTear, 59, lost her life after her Mercedes[1] A-class collided with a van on the A737.

A number of calls around that time also reported six horses[2] running loose on the road.

Emergency services raced to the incident and Lesley was pronounced dead at the scene

Lesley's devastated loved ones paid tribute to their beloved relative and praised her caring nature.

A family spokesperson said: “Lesley was a loving wife, mother, grandma and daughter-in-law.

“Lesley was the glue that kept us all together and anyone who was lucky enough to know Lesley was showered by her unconditional love.”

Sergeant Jack Swindells echoed the tribute and urged anyone with information to come forward.

He said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the woman who has died and everyone involved.

“Our enquiries continue to establish the full circumstances and anyone who can assist with our investigation who has not already spoken to officers is asked to get in touch.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "A 59-year-old woman who died following a crash on the A737 near Howwood can be named as Lesley McTear from the Dreghorn area.

"Around 3.10am on Monday, 23 September 2024, officers were called to the crash involving a Mercedes A-class car and a MAN box van.

"A number of calls around that time also reported six horses running loose on the A737.

"Police and Ambulance[3] attended and the 59-year-old woman, a passenger in the Mercedes was pronounced dead at the scene."
