Live: M5 blocked as crash forces motorway closure

There are severe delays on the M5 near Stroud this evening, Monday, September 23, after a day of chaos on the motorway. A broken down lorry is causing major delays northbound near Stroud, junction 13.

The traffic is not helped by an earlier crash near Gloucester. Two lanes on the northbound carriageway are currently closed and there are severe delays.

The earlier crash involved a car and fuel was spilled on the carriageway. Traffic was first held at 11.40am this morning[1]. Bad weather[2] is also making driving conditions treacherous.

Traffic and travel monitoring site Inrix reports: “Severe delays and two lanes closed due to recovery work and broken down lorry on M5 Northbound at J13 A419 ( Stroud ). Congestion to routes through Whitminster along the A38.

“Lanes two and three (of three) are now closed, traffic not helped by the earlier accident after J12 (Quedgeley / Hardwicke).”
