Live M6 updates as ‘lorry falls off Thelwall Viaduct’ with motorway closed
Motorists are being warned a stretch of the M6 is shut off tonight following a collision which has seen ‘all emergency services’ called to the scene. The smash, which has involved a truck, has taken place on the northbound carriageway between Junction 20 and 21.
National Highways issued an update at around 7.50pm to confirm the crash is ‘not as serious as first reported’. Subsequently traffic trapped within the closure has been able to pass the scene of the collision.
However the closure remains in place for all other traffic with a diversion in place. A spokesperson for National Highways said: “The M6 in Cheshire is closed northbound between J20 (Lymm/M56) and J21 (Warrington) due to a collision involving a lorry.
“All emergency services including North West Motorway Police Group, the North West Ambulance Service Trust and Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service are attending the scene. National Highways Traffic Officers are also providing assistance with traffic management.”
