M1 diversion route as southbound closed between J26 for Nottingham and J28 for Mansfield
Motorists are facing delays due to the closure of the M1 southbound in Nottinghamshire this morning (Saturday, September 21). A serious crash has closed the southbound side between J28 (South Normanton/ Mansfield[1] ) and J26 (Nottingham) due to a serious incident involving a lorry and a car.
Nottinghamshire Police[2] officers are at the scene and East Midlands Ambulance Service[3] paramedics have attended, assisted by National Highways traffic officers.[4] The road has been closed since around 4.20am, according to traffic information service Inrix.
Highways East Midlands confirmed the road closure just after 5am this morning. In a post on X, formerly Twitter, a spokesperson said: “The M1 in Nottinghamshire is closed southbound following a serious collision between J27 Nottingham/LangleyMill and J26 Nottingham.” The closure has since been extended to junction 28, according to Highways and traffic information service Inrix.
Highways England has confirmed details of a diversion route, which is listed below:

- At Hartshay Interchange, take the first exit onto the A610 and continue for approx. 10 miles
