A serious crash has closed the M1 southbound[1] in Nottinghamshire this morning (Saturday, September 21). The busy motorway is closed southbound between J28 (South Normanton/Mansfield) and J26 (Nottingham) due to the incident involving a lorry and a car.

Nottinghamshire Police[2] and East Midlands Ambulance Service are currently at the scene and are being assisted by National Highways traffic officers.[3] Highways East Midlands confirmed the road closure just after 5am this morning.

In a post on X, formerly Twitter, a spokesperson said: “The M1 in Nottinghamshire is closed southbound following a serious collision between J27 Nottingham/LangleyMill and J26 Nottingham.” The closure has since been extended to junction 28, according to Highways and traffic information service Inrix.
