New speed camera locations announced across Leicestershire
Motorists in Leicestershire[1] should be aware of 15 new locations where mobile speed camera[2] vans will be deployed from today (Saturday, September 28). The new locations span the region, including areas in Coalville[3], Glen Parva[4], Sapcote and Sileby, the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Safety Camera Partnership (SCP) has announced.
Leicester[5] itself will also be getting additional monitoring with three roads earmarked for cameras, the partnership added. The sites have been chosen based on a combination of community requests, vehicle speed data, and injury collision[6] history.
Some 446,283 speeding offences were recorded across the city and two counties in 2023, the SCP's data shows. Of these, 288,251 drivers completed education courses, 119,445 paid fixed penalty notices, and 38,587 faced court summons.

Any residents with concerns can request a road be considered under the scheme, but not all will end up being monitored. Jonathan Clarkson, spokesman for the partnership, told LeicestershireLive: "When we receive a ‘community concern’ request, we will look at the latest vehicle speeds[8] at the relevant location, in some cases this may include deployment of a covert roadside speed survey.
"The policy for enforcement requires there to be both a history of injury collisions and evidence of speeding problems collision history before a speed camera can be deployed."
While these 15 locations have been publicised, drivers should note that speed cameras may be deployed at other sites across the region as well.
