Ongoing police incident shuts down A737 as commuters told to avoid major route to Glasgow
A stretch of the A737 at Lochwinnoch, Renfrewshire, is closed to traffic in both directions as motorists have been warned to find another route.
The busy route is shut between Howwood and KIlbarchan due to an ongoing police[1] incident reported in the early hours of Monday (September 23).
The road closure has been in place since 3.42am, and Amey reports on X, formerly Twitter, that it’s due to a “serious road traffic[2] incident”.
Following earlier advice to "please continue to use an alt route at this time", Traffic Scotland shared an update at 7.35am which reads: “#A737 Howwood remains CLOSED in both directions between Howwood and Kilbarchan, due to an ongoing incident.
“A diversion route is now in place.”
Stagecoach has also shared that its X36 service faces diversions, via Gateside, Lugton, Barrhead and the M77, adding “we’re sorry for the delay”.
The busy route is a lifeline to Glasgow for many commuters who will face significant delays this morning - so plan ahead if you’re heading near the A737 this morning.
