Police issue update after three-vehicle crash closes A38 in both directions
Derbyshire police[1] has confirmed a man has sustained serious injuries after a three-car-crash on the A38[2] in Derbyshire. Police and fire crews attended the scene on the southbound carriageway of the road, near the Findern turn off, at around 6.25pm on Monday (September 23) after reports of a crash.
At 7pm, the fire service issued a statement urging motorists to avoid the area. A spokesperson for Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service[3] said: “We are currently in attendance at a road traffic collision on the A38 southbound near the Findern roundabout. The road is now closed, avoid the area.”
Another update was issued by the fire service at 7.50pm, confirming that the road would be closed for “some time”, adding that a diversion was in place. At the scene, a Scania HGV, a Hyundai Tucson and a Vauxhall Vivaro were found to have crashed south of the turn off for Findern.
The driver of the Vauxhall suffered serious injuries to his leg and was taken to hospital. The drivers of the HGV and the Hyundai did not suffer any serious physical injuries. The road re-opened at 11pm after the Hyundai and the Vauxhall were recovered.
