School’s tribute to student Sarah Cain after A1 crash tragically claims her life
A school has paid tribute to student Sarah Cain who died two days after a crash on the A1.
English Martyrs School, in Catcote Road, Hartlepool[1], released a statement following 16-year-old Sarah’s death[2] saying it was “saddened” to learn of her passing after the collision. Sarah was travelling in a Kia Niro car on the motorway on Thursday, last week, when it was involved in a crash with a Citroen car.
The youngster, who had completed her GCSEs at the school and was due to start studying at its sixth form college, was rushed to hospital, but tragically died from her injuries two days later.
On Wednesday, the school posted on its Facebook[3] page: “We are deeply saddened to learn of the death of Sarah Cain, a student who has been with us for five years and was set to continue her studies with us in Year 12. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family at this time of great loss and sadness.
“If you would like to sign our online book of condolences you can do so on this link: https://forms.office.com/e/aQF6BURjzi[4].
“Please join us in praying for the repose of her soul. Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.”
An investigation into the tragedy, during which two other people suffered serious injuries, has been launched and officers are appealing for any witnesses to get in touch. The Major Collision and Enquiry Team is continuing to investigate the horror crash which happened between junctions 41 and 40 on the A1(M) on Thursday, August 29, at 12.35pm.
Police say a Citroen C5 was in collision with the Kia Niro that Sarah was travelling in, in lane two. Both vehicles then entered lane one where the Kia collided with a Subaru Outback towing a caravan. Two other parties from vehicles involved remain in hospital for treatment to serious injuries. The male driver of the Citroen C5 who was arrested on suspicion of driving offences in connection with the incident, meanwhile, has been released on police bail.
Sarah’s family paid tribute to her earlier this week saying: “We as a family are devastated by the death of our beautiful Sarah. She is and always will be irreplaceable. We ask for privacy at this time to grieve her loss.”
