Urgent call for change after two major crashes in Birmingham as campaigners say ‘no excuse’
Road safety campaigners have called on the city council[1] to ‘take ownership’ of the ‘crisis’ on our city’s roads following two major crashes in Birmingham[2] yesterday. Police are probing the two incidents in Birmingham – one of which we now know was fatal[3].
Police and ambulance crews were called to Pershore Road, in Cotteridge, yesterday afternoon (Thursday, September 20) following a collision between a vehicle and pedestrian. Today it was confirmed a pedestrian has died following a crash with a lorry.[4][5]
Just minutes later, emergency services were called to part of the A38 Bristol Road in Edgbaston[6] after a car was ‘left on its roof’, according to witnesses. Campaign group Better Streets for Birmingham said the city was ‘reeling’ from a devastating evening on its streets and issued an urgent plea for change.
