Van driver dies in M40 lorry crash as tailbacks grow

A van driver has died in a collision with a lorry that left the M40 closed. The crash happened northbound between junctions 12, at Gaydon, and 14, at Leamington Spa, at around 5.45 am today, Thursday, September 12.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The lorry driver escaped unharmed, reports Coventry Live[1][2]

The closure caused major traffic congestion. The ambulance service’s full statement said: “We were called to reports of a collision between junctions 12 and 13 of the M40 northbound near Gaydon at around 5.45am.

“Two ambulances and a paramedic officer were sent to the scene where, on arrival, crews found a van and a lorry had been involved in a collision. Sadly, it quickly became clear the driver of the van, a man, could not be saved and was confirmed dead at the scene. The lorry driver was not injured.”

Warwickshire[3] Police also attended the scene.
