Woman, 62, dies after being knocked off bike in ‘horrific’ crash
A woman has tragically died after being knocked off her bike in a 'horrific' crash in Cheshire.
The smash happened on Wilmslow Road, in Handforth[1], on Saturday (September 14). Cheshire Police said a blue Citroen C4 Grand Picasso was travelling along the road when it hit a cyclist.
The cyclist - a 62-year-old woman - was knocked off the bike onto the roadside. Passers-by gave her first aid before paramedics arrived on the scene.
She was rushed to hospital in a critical condition. Sadly she died on Tuesday morning (September 17) three days after the crash, Cheshire Police revealed today in an update.
The force said previously the driver of the Citreon had been identified as 42-year-old Seena Chacko. She reportedly carried on driving along the road with the bike underneath the car after the crash.
She was then stopped by another driver, police added. Chacko, of Tabley Road, Handforth, previously pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
At Chester Magistrates' Court on Monday, she also admitted failing to stop after a road accident, no licence and no insurance. It has not yet been confirmed whether the charges have been amended since the victim died.
Chacko is currently due to be sentenced at Chester Crown Court on October 21. Investigating officer Sgt Russ Sime previously said: "This was a horrific incident and shocking for those who witnessed it.
"I’d like to thank those who stopped the car, and those who gave the cyclist first aid while paramedics were called. Our thoughts remain with the family of the cyclist at this truly awful time."
