Appeal after woman, 82, dies following M6 crash in August

On Monday, August 5, officers attended a crash on the M6 northbound at Galgate, near to junction 33.

The crash, between a blue Ford Fiesta , a Mercedes Sprinter and a Scania R500 lorry happened at around 4.15am.

The 82-year-old driver of the Ford Fiesta was taken to hospital with serious injuries. She died in hospital on October 8. No one else was injured in the collision.

Sergeant Mikaela Bottomley, of Lancashire’s roads policing unit, said: “A lady has very sadly lost her life following this collision. First and foremost, my thoughts are with her loved ones at this upsetting time.

“We know that this happened a while ago, but we are now asking for your help. A number of people will have seen the vehicles involved, particularly the blue Fiesta, prior to the collision and if you have any information or footage that may assist our enquiries, please get in contact."

The M6 was closed for hours on Tuesday as officers conducted a collision investigation.

Today (October 16) it was announced that a man died following a horror crash on the M61.[2]

Officers were called shortly before midnight. The motorway was closed between junction eight for Chorley and junction eight for Horwich.

The crash was between a Citroen C1 and the barrier, before it then crashed with a Mercedes-Benz that was also travelling southbound.

A man, in his 20s, who died was a passenger in the Citroen.

The driver of the Citroen and another passenger suffered serious injuries. The driver of the Mercedes suffered serious injuries, and they were all taken to hospital for treatment.
