Police officers are continuing to investigate the lorry crash at rush hour on a busy rural road this morning.
The driver of the lorry was uninjured.
A spokesman for Sussex Police said the driver and three passengers in a Black Ford Focus were injured in a crash as they travelled southbound along the A267 in Cross in Hand near Heathfield this morning.
The sewage tanker, heading north, was also involved in the collision and overturned on the side of the road shortly at around 7am this morning.

The road is likely to remain closed in both directions "for several hours" due to vehicle recovery work and forensic examinations, the force confirmed.
A spokesman for the force said: "We’d like to thank the public for their patience and understanding. Diversion signs are in place.
"In the meantime, officers are urging anyone who saw what happened to email [email protected] quoting Operation Hales.
"In particular, police are keen to hear from anyone who drove past but did not stop at the scene, who may have dash cam or mobile footage."
