Lancashire Police uncover £48,000 at Charnock Richard Services

Officers pulled over a Hyundai Tucson at Charnock Richard Services on the M61 on Wednesday, October 23, and found £48,000 stuffed inside the shopping bag.

A 27-year-old man from Norfolk was arrested on suspicion of money laundering and has since been bailed whilst enquiries continue.

At 8.45pm on the same day, officers spotted a car being driving erratically in Blackburn[1] and it was stopped in Ainsworth Street.

The driver gave a positive drug wipe for cannabis and a 21-year-old male was arrested on suspicion of drug driving and has since been released as investigations continue.

A crash between an HGV and a car on Brownhill Drive in Blackburn was then dealt with by police on Thursday at 11.30pm.

Phillip McQuire, 53, was arrested and charged with drink driving after allegedly being more than four times over the legal limit.

McQuire, of North Road, Manchester, is alleged to have been driving the HGV and was due to appear at magistrates’ court on Friday.

Additionally, at 9.20am that day, another man was arrested and charged by police.

Sheldon Meades, 30, of Cottam Avenue, Ingol is accused of driving erratically, and also is alleged to have had a bladed article in his vehicle.

He appeared at Preston Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

Police also received a report of someone suspected to be drunk driving and stopped a van on Rigby Road, Blackpool, on Thursday, and has also been charged.

Iain Turner, 44, of Constable Street, Manchester, was charged with drink driving and has been bailed to appear at Lancaster Magistrates Court on January 17, 2025.

At 12.30am on Saturday, a driver was stopped in London Way, Preston, and is alleged to have been almost double the drink drive limit.

Hayley Craig, 52, of Penkford Street, Newton-Le-Willows, has been charged with driving a motor vehicle above the legal limit and was bailed to appear before Preston Magistrates’ Court on November 7.
