A crash between a lorry and a car has shut down a major route into London causing two-hour delays.

The M4 has been closed eastbound between Junction 2 (London inner ring road) and Junction 1 (London) in Gloucestershire due to the collision.

National Highways has warned drivers there are delays of over two hours due to the closure and the Metropolitan Police are at the scene.

The road was shut following a crash between a lorry and a car just before 10am, according to travel data site Inrix.

It comes after the Elizabeth line and Great Western Railway services were hit by major disruption on Monday morning due to a casualty on the tracks.

A British Transport Police spokesperson told the Standard: “Officers were called to the line in Reading at around 9.25am today (7 October) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

“Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

National Rail warned that trains between Reading and London Paddington were delayed by 90 minutes due to the issue.

Good service on the Elizabeth line

Transport for London has told customers there is a good service on the Elizabeth line again following earlier disruption due to a casualty on the track at Reading.

The British Transport Police were called to the line in Reading shortly before 9.30am. A person was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two men rushed to hospital after crash in west London

Two men have been taken to hospital after a crash outside a hospital in west London.

The incident outside Central Middlesex Hospital has closed an entrance to the building.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson told the Harrow Times: “We were called at 5.25am this morning (Monday 7 October) to reports of a road traffic collision in Acton Lane, NW10.

“We sent several resources to the scene, including ambulance crews, paramedics in fast response cars, members of our Tactical Response Unit, an incident response officer and London’s Air Ambulance.

“The first of our crews arrived in three minutes.

“Our crews treated two men at the scene, before taking both to a London major trauma centre by road as a priority.”

Following an incident outside Central Middlesex Hospital, the front of the hospital is closed and diversions are in place. All services are open as usual. Please follow the signs and leave extra time for your journey.

Casualty on the tracks near Reading causes major disruption

A person has sadly died on the tracks near Reading.

Two-hour waits on the M4

National Highways has warned that there are two-hour waits on the M4 coming into London due to a collision.

The road has been shut eastbound between Junction 2 and Junction 1 due to the crash. The Met Police are at the scene.

Traffic is being diverted via local routes and travellers are being advised to allow extra journey time.
