Lorry driver arrested for drug driving after A303 crash

The crash, involving an Iveco Eurocargo lorry and a Peugeot Partner van, happened at around 8.20pm last night, Wednesday, October 9, on the A303 eastbound near Basingstoke Crematorium.

The crash prompted the closure of the A303 eastbound between Basingstoke Crematorium and Junction 7 of the M3.

The Peugeot driver, a man in his 30s, suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries.

The Iveco driver was a 36-year-old man from county Durham.

He was arrested on suspicion of drug driving, driving while unfit through drugs, and causing serious injury by careless driving.

He has been released on bail until November 8 while police carry out further inquiries.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary told theĀ Gazette[2]: “We were called at 8.24pm to a collision on the M3 involving a white Peugeot boxer and a white Iveco Eurocargo.

“The driver of the Peugeot, a man in his 30s, suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries.

“The driver of the Iveco, a 36-year-old man from Birtley, County Durham, was arrested on suspicion of drug driving, driving while unfit through drugs and causing serious injury by careless driving.

“He has been bailed until 8 November while further enquiries are carried out.”
