M4 traffic chaos after five-vehicle crash

There are long delays on the M4 after five vehicles crash on the motorway. Traffic is queuing between junction 19 and 20, at the Almondsbury Interchange, near Bristol following the collision at around 8.40am today.

Traffic monitor Inrix reports: “One lane closed and queueing traffic due to accident, five vehicles involved on M4 Westbound from J19 M32 (Bristol) to J20 M5 J15 (Almondsbury Interchange).Cameras show lane one and two (of four) are closed.”

It comes as a separate stretch of the M4 has been closed after a crash between a lorry and a car in the early hours of today (Friday, October 4). The motorway is closed westbound between junction 14 for Hungerford in Berkshire and junction 15 for Swindon East, where the motorway joins the A419.

A diversion via Hungerford and Aldbourne is in place and motorists are urged to follow the hollow square signs. The closure is for accident investigation work.
