M6 Thelwall Viaduct live traffic updates after lorry falls causing major traffic delays
Part of the M6 remains closed this morning after a lorry fell off the Thelwall Viaduct on Monday evening. The incident has caused long delays in both directions from J20 M56 J9 to J21 A57 Manchester Road, Woolston.
The motorway was fully closed on the northbound carriageway between J20 for Lymm Interchange and J21 for the A57 after the serious collision. The latest from traffic alert site Inrix says: “Two lanes closed and slow traffic due to emergency barrier repairs and earlier accident, a lorry involved on M6 Northbound from J20 M56 J9 (Lymm Interchange) to J21 A57 Manchester Road (Woolston). Lanes three and four (of four) are closed. Complex recovery work of the lorry will be taking place throughout the morning.”
National Highways has issued an update warning drivers to expect delays this morning and to allow extra time to travel. Posting on X, they said: “2 lanes (of 4) are now closed on the #M6[1] northbound in #Cheshire[2] between J20 (#Lymm[3]) & J21 (#Warrington[4]) following the earlier collision. A complex repair operation is underway and will continue throughout the morning. Expect delays into the morning peak. Allow extra time.”
According to traffic alert site Inrix, the accident took place on the Thelwall Viaduct, M6 Northbound. Traffic is also being held up in the Southbound direction. All traffic is currently stationary. National Highways has reported all emergency services are at the scene.
