Moment thieves plunder crashed lorry and make off with crates of Corona beer
Footage captures thieves make off with boxes of Corona[1] after a lorry overturned[2] on a busy road.
The truck crashed on the Pan-American Highway near the rural town of Rosas, Colombia[3], on Monday. And, amid the commotion, bandits were seen stealing crates of the beer[4] from the vehicle. The video, shared online since the crash, shows how no one appeared to rush to the aid of the driver. Instead, people are seen clambering onto the trailer’s tilted roof to pilfer boxes of the Mexican[5] beverage.
Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the accident. The vehicle ended up blocking the highway, which connects the Colombian departments of Nario, Cauca and Valle del Cauca. But when word spread the lorry’s load had spilled onto the main road near Rosas, hundreds of locals showed up to take full advantage. Looters reportedly deactivated the vehicle’s security system to access the boxes of Corona, taking as much as they could.

One witness told local media: “Instead of going over to help the driver, people just showed up to steal the beer.” The police said they have launched an investigation to establish the exact cause of the accident and identify as many suspected thieves as possible.
A video of the looting spree has been viewed more than 62,000 times on X, which was known as Twitter[7]. One local commented: “No future for us, what a shame.” Another said: “They’re caught on film, prosecute them!” A third wrote: “This is the result of lack of education and rising poverty, it isn’t a problem with a certain community, it’s a problem of state abandonment.”
One person remarked: “It’s strange, there were also cans of deodorant and job offers there but no one would take them.” Another joked: “The suspects were drunk when the police arrived.”
When a beer lorry crashed on the M25 in Hertfordshire, booze was gushed across the road[8]. A massive clean-ip operation saw the M25, known as the London Orbital Motorway, closed for several hours.
