New temporary speed camera to be trialled near Cults after speeding concerns

A new temporary speed camera will be introduced near Aberdeen^[1] after a survey showed more than two thirds of drivers were travelling over the speed limit.

The flexible deployment location has been identified within the 30mph limit on the A93 North Deeside^[2] Road Near Cults^[3].

Following concerns from residents and at the request of Aberdeen City Council, Police Scotland Safety Cameras will commence enforcement on A93 North Deeside Road Near Cults with a safety camera van from the 1^st November in a bid to reduce vehicle speeds and make the route safer for all road users.

A recent speed survey recorded that 68% of motorists were travelling in excess of the 30mph speed limit.

Eric Dunion, Manager of the North Safety Camera Unit, said: “The flexible deployment scheme allows us to enforce at locations of concern for an initial 3-month period with the aim of improving driver behaviour by encouraging motorists to slow down and drive within the speed limit.

“We know that North Deeside Road is often used by other road users such as cyclists and pedestrians. Residents have rightly raised their concerns about the level of speeding vehicles on the road and this was confirmed with the speed survey which highlighted that motorists were travelling in excess of the speed limit in place.”

Aberdeen City Council Co-Leader Councillor Ian Yuill said: “The mobile safety speed camera should make a difference at North Deeside Road, a route which is heavily used by pedestrians and cyclists. Every driver should stick to the speed limit in the interests of other road users, including pedestrians. We all need to remember that speed kills.”
