Number of incidents on A417 cause rush-hour headache with hour delays in Gloucestershire
Motorists were caught in delays[1] of up to an hour after one of the main routes in Gloucestershire was severely affected by a crash and a break-down this morning (Wednesday, October 16). National Highways said there had been a ‘number of incidents’ on the A417[2] that led to the rush-hour hold ups.
The issue was on the dual-carriageway heading from junction 11am with the M5, past the A46 junction for Shurdington and Brockworth, and up the steep Crickley Hill section towards the Air Balloon roundabout. Traffic maps and cameras showed slow-moving and stationary traffic.
On X, formerly twitter, National Highways said: Long delays of over an hour on the A417 southbound between the M5 J11a and the A436 Coberley due to a number of incidents. There is a collision after the A46 Brockworth which is closing 1 lane and the road is blocked for a broken down HGV at the A436.”
While travel and traffic site Inrix said: “Long delays and one lane closed due to accident on A417 Eastbound from A46 Shurdington Road (Tewkesbury) to Air Balloon Roundabout (Birdlip). Congestion to almost back to J11A (Gloucester / Cirencester). There is also a broken down lorry reported along this stretch.
