Pedestrian critically injured after being hit by bus in Jesmond
Police have appealed for witnesses to come forward after the man was seriously injured following a collision in Jesmond.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “At around 12pm yesterday (Monday), police received a report of a collision on the A189 Jesmond Dene Road, close to the junction with Moorfield.
“It was reported that a red single-decker bus had been travelling east when, for reasons yet to be established, it has struck a male pedestrian on the road.
“Emergency services attended the scene and the pedestrian, a man aged in his 70s, was found to have sustained serious injuries.
“He was taken to hospital for treatment, where he remains in a critical condition.”
The man’s next of kin have been informed. The driver of the bus remained at the scene and is assisting police with their enquiries.
Officers from Northumbria Police’s Roads Policing Unit have launched a full investigation and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
They are particularly keen to hear from any witnesses who have not yet spoken with police – including motorists who might have dashcam footage.
