Roadworks to start on A33 between Basingstoke and Reading
National Highways is urging drivers to “plan ahead if travelling to Reading this weekend,” as essential bridge works at junction 12 of the M4 Theale Interchange are being carried out.
There will be no access to Reading town centre from the junction for those travelling westbound on the M4, between 9pm on Friday, 11 October and 6am, Monday 14 October.
Work will include replacing the expansion joints, waterproofing, and resurfacing to maintain the structural integrity to both bridges.
Project manager Nick Axford, of National Highways said: “We will be carrying out essential bridge works at Theale Interchange over the weekend, and this is likely to lead to significant delays and congestion in the Reading area.
“For those travelling westbound on the M4 to Reading there will be no access to the town from junction 12 from 9pm on Friday until 6am on Monday. Drivers heading to into Reading must leave the motorway at junction 11.
“Motorists from Basingstoke heading into Reading on the A33 are also advised to stay on the A33 at junction 11 to continue their journey into the town centre. Do not travel to junction 12 as this will lead to the diversion route, taking drivers back towards Hampshire.”
