Updates as A4 Keynsham bypass shut due to fallen tree

A fallen tree has closed[1] a major A-road on the outskirts of Bristol this afternoon (Sunday, October 20). The tree has closed the A4 Keynsham[2] bypass in one direction from the Bath Road junction to the A4174 (Hicks Gate roundabout).

The eastbound carriageway remains open whilst the tree remains on the westbound side. Traffic is queueing and delays are building.

Inrix says that there is congestion stretching as far back as Saltford. It said the incident was first reported at 4:34pm.

It says on Inrix: “A4 Keynsham By-pass Westbound closed, queueing traffic due to accident from Broadmead Lane (Broadmead Roundabout) to A4174 (Hicks Gate Roundabout). Congestion to Saltford area.”

BristolLive understands there has been no collision.

A witness said: “Traffic chaos around the Broadmead Lane roundabout, which is affecting an already congested road due to the M4 closure[3].”

Another witness said there were two police cars and a van at the scene after the tree had fell. Avon and Somerset Police have been approached for comment.
