A338 Spur Road: Car caught speeding at 120mph by police
The car – the fastest recorded speed this year – was by a mobile speed camera van one morning at 10.02 at an unspecified date, Dorset Police said. Meanwhile, the fastest car clocked in 2023 was clocked going at 127mph on the A35 Puddletown Bypass near Dorchester. Both roads have a speed limit of 70mph.
Dorset Police has also caught a vehicle driving at 42mph in a 20mph zone and in a 30mph zone, 85mph this year and 97mph in 2023. The minimum penalty for speeding is a GBP100 fine and three points added to the driver’s licence. Getting 12 or more points in three years may lead to disqualification.
Police sergeant Gareth Thomas, of the No Excuse Team, said: “There is no excuse for exceeding the speed limit and taking reckless actions behind the wheel of a vehicle.
“Driving at excessive speed not only puts yourself in danger, but it also endangers other road users and increases the risk of a collision occurring.
“Not only that, the consequences of any collision are also likely to be more significant if the speeds involved are higher.”
