A50 shut for 10 hours and counting after three lorries and coach crash

A lorry has had to be hauled out of a field after a smash between three HGVs and a coach shut the A50. The eastbound carriageway between Blythe Bridge[1] and Uttoxeter[2] remains closed this morning – more than 10 hours since the smash. Police were called to the scene just before 10.45pm last night.

As the night wore on officers urged drivers to stay away from the A50[3] as cops received reports of ‘vehicles becoming stuck’ on the stretch between Stoke-on-Trent and Uttoxeter. Staffordshire Police[4] have said nobody was hurt in the crash involving three trucks and a coach. A spokeswoman said: “We were called at 10.43pm last night (November 18) to reports of a collision on the A50 eastbound near Uttoxeter.

The collision involved three lorries and a coach. A lorry has been recovered from a field. No-one is believed to have received life threatening or life changing injuries.”

Traffic monitoring system Inrix is reporting the road remains closed with congestion on neighbouring stretches as drivers seek alternative routes. It states: “The A50 eastbound is closed. There is slow traffic due to recovery work and an earlier accident from the A521 Blythe Bridge roundabout to the A522 Uttoxeter junction.

There is congestion to Draycott with diverting traffic heading into Tean.

It is also busy along the A522 Uttoxeter Road.”
