Cambridgeshire criminals jailed in October include woman who stabbed sister and former cop

Cambridgeshire criminals who were jailed in October included a former police officer who took pictures of dead women and a woman who stabbed her sister. Other crimes[1] which saw criminals put behind bars included sexual abuse of children, assault, and causing death by dangerous driving.

The longest sentence handed down at a court[2] in Cambridgeshire[3] was 26 years. It was handed to Anthony Goodridge, a paedophile who sexually assaulted two young girls and had hundreds of indecent images of children on his devices.

We’ve put together a list of some of the worst criminals jailed in Cambridgeshire[4] this month. Read on for more information about their crimes and sentences.

Samuel Robinson[5]

Former primary school teacher and scout leader Robinson had a sexual conversation with someone he believed to be a 13-year-old girl – but was a decoy from a child activist group. Robinson persisted with the sexual conversation despite repeatedly being told he was speaking with a 13-year-old in April 2023.

Robinson, of Milton[6], was jailed for two years and 10 months at Cambridge[7] Crown Court on October 2. He had pleaded guilty to engaging in sexual communication with a child, attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child and attempting to cause a girl to engage in sexual activity.

Patricia O’Dwyer[8]

O’Dwyer stabbed her sister with a knife in Cambridge on July 21. When emergency services arrived, they found the victim collapsed on the ground while people applied pressure to wounds on her abdomen, neck, and elbow.

O’Dwyer was arrested at the scene with blood on her hands and a knife hidden in her bra. She pleaded guilty to wounding with intent, making threats to kill, and possession of a knife in a public place, and was sentenced to six years in prison at Cambridge Crown Court on October 4.

Matthew Fox[9]

Fox was caught by police after raping an unconscious woman in Peterborough[10]. CCTV operators alerted the police to the situation after becoming concerned for the woman’s welfare, since she appeared to be very drunk.

Fox was found guilty of rape after a trial at Cambridge Crown Court – he had claimed the sex was consensual. He was sentenced to 11 years in prison on October 4.

He was also sentenced for perverting the course of justice after police found he had contacted his cousin, Alfie Smith, sister, Jamie-Lee Fox, and mum, Alison Quinn-Gajdur, asking them to contact the victim on his behalf. Jamie-Lee Fox had messaged the victim on Facebook[11], while Smith called the victim multiple times to intimidate her to change her account.

Jamie-Lee Fox and Smith were given sentences of two years and eight months and three and a half years[12], respectively, on October 9. Quinn-Gadjur was convicted of perverting the course of justice and handed a suspended sentence.

Bairam controlled his former partner’s life, hit her with a hockey stick, and dragged her across the floor by her hair in a ‘terrifying ordeal’. He spent her money, took away her mobile phone, and controlled when she could bathe, eat, and sleep.

He also threatened to kill the victim and her children and rape her 16-year-old daughter. Bairam pleaded guilty to false imprisonment and actual bodily harm.

He was jailed for two years and two months at Cambridge Crown Court on October 4. He was also sentenced for an unrelated burglary and fraud charges, for which he received an additional 18 months, taking his total sentence to three years and eight months.

Paedophile Goodridge sexually assaulted two young girls, including a toddler, filmed another, and secretly recorded a fourth victim showering and getting changed. Two phones seized when he was arrested were found to contain indecent images of children, including 716 category C images, 356 category B images and 416 category A images – the most severe.

Goodridge, of Cambridge, later admitted 16 offences including:

  • Three counts of sexual assault on a girl under 13 by penetration;
  • Four counts of sexual assault on a girl under 13 by touching;
  • Six counts of making an indecent image of a child;
  • Two counts of taking indecent images of a child;
  • One count of voyeurism.

He was sentenced at Peterborough[15] Crown Court[16] on October 9, where he was handed a total of 26 years in prison. A restraining order preventing him from contacting his victims, and a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) to monitor future offending, were both made indefinitely.

Mohammed Beila[17]

Beila was caught on CCTV and identified using facial recognition software after repeatedly punching and stamping on a woman in Peterborough on January 6. She had significant injuries and was initially though to be in a life-threatening condition, and was later confirmed to have suffered a broken collarbone and fractured eye socket.

Beila was sentenced to seven years in prison at Cambridge Crown Court on October 11. He had previously pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent. He has also been made subject of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).

David Taylor[18]

Taylor killed a motorcyclist in a head-on crash after trying to overtake a van along Forty Foot Bank, Ramsey, on January 8 – saying the motorcycle ‘just appeared’. Alexander Paynter, 25, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Taylor was jailed for three years and six months at Peterborough[19] Crown Court[20] on October 23. He had pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving at an earlier hearing.

Detective Sergeant Craig Wheeler said: “This was a completely avoidable collision that simply wouldn’t have happened had Taylor driven to the road conditions. He chose to perform a completely unnecessary and dangerous overtake which tragically resulted in Alexander losing his life. Alexander was innocently riding home to his family from his place of work and he was unable to do anything to avoid this collision.”

Russell Hinkins[21]

Former police officer Hinkins shared pictures of two dead women, road crash victims, prisoners, and a missing teenage girl with his partner and brother while working for Essex[22] Police. A prosecutor said former Essex Police cop Russell Hinkins wanted to “brag and show off to others” during a hearing at Chelmsford Crown Court on October 28.

Hinkins, from Haverhill[23], has been sentenced to four years in prison for misconduct in a public office from 2017 to 2020, accessing unauthorised material, and sharing unlawfully obtained data from police systems. During sentencing, Judge Loram said: “Every time the police officers behave the way you do, betraying the trust of the public, that makes life harder for other officers to serve the public. The betrayal of trust placed to you as a police officer took more than one form.”

Zahid Majid[24]

Majid killed a Cambridgeshire couple after overtaking farm vehicles on a single carriageway road and failing to return to his lane. William and Susannah Wilson, both aged 80 from Swavesey, both died at the scene on the A1307 on July 23, 2022.

DC Kim Marshall, of the BCH Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU), said: “This is another heartbreaking case which is almost beyond belief. Mr and Mrs Wilson would still be alive had Majid paid attention to the road; his driving was simply dangerous. Mr and Mrs Wilson’s deaths have devastated their family and friends and so easily could have been avoided. There is nothing that highlights the reality of dangerous driving more than cases like these.”

Majid stood trial for three days at Cambridge Crown Court in August, where jurors took less than three hours to find him guilty of counts of causing death by dangerous driving. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison and disqualified from driving for a total of 12 years at Peterborough[25] Crown Court on October 30.
