Delays on A16 after crash near Fairfield Industrial Estate

The A16 was closed at Louth for a short time causing major tailbacks following a crash between two vehicles.

One man was taken to hospital suffering from minor injuries when his Peugeot collided with the rear of a McCann's truck, northbound on the busy route.

The crash happened at around 11am. The airbag on the car deployed causing minor injury.

Temporary diversions were put in place while emergency services attended. Bolingbroke Road, leading into Louth's Fairfield Industrial Estate was also closed for a while.

Drivers had to access the BP petrol station and Spar shop and other facilities and businesses on the industrial estate, including McDonald's by travelling along Grimsby Road, on to North Holme Road and along Tattershall Way.

A spokeswoman for the BP garage said: "When they closed the road everyone had to divert towards town and back into the industrial estate from there."

An eyewitness said: "The driver of the car was shaken and he was taken to hospital for a check up. The road was closed for a while and it caused a lot of congestion and delays. But the emergency services were there quick and then the recovery truck took the car away. It all went quite quickly. All the services were very good, but it did cause delays for a lot of people."

A Lincolnshire Police spokesperson said: "We received a call at 11am this morning to report a two vehicle RTC on the A16 in Louth near Fairfield Industrial Estate. The road was closed briefly whilst officers attended and was reopened shortly after.

"One person involved was taken to hospital with injuries which are reported to be minor."
