Inquest opens into death of Jayne Green in A56 Chester Road crash

Jayne Green, of Westy, died on the A56 Chester Road on November 10 aged just 42. The incident happened at around 6.10pm near to the junction with Hobb Lane, involving a Nissan Note and a white Seat Leon. An inquest was opened at Warrington Coroner's Court yesterday, Wednesday.

It was said that on November 10, Ms Green was the rear seat passenger in her mother's vehicle when it was 'struck by an oncoming vehicle which crossed onto the opposite carriageway'. Her identity was confirmed by her brother to a police officer on November 11. Two other passengers in the Nissan were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the Seat Leon, a 65-year-old man who has not been named, and whose inquest has not yet been opened, also died at the scene. A coroner officer confirmed that an inquest had been requested due to Ms Green's cause of death being 'unnatural'. "It is requested that an inquest be opened and adjourned to allow for further work to be completed," she said.

An internal case review by the coroner has been listed for January 26, 2025, with an inquest listed for May 27. Before concluding the brief hearing, Victoria Davies, area coroner for Cheshire, said: "Given the circumstances, this cause of death is unnatural. "It is appropriate to formally open an inquest into the death of Jayne Ann Green and adjourn for further work to be completed for an inquest on May 27, 2025."

The family of Ms Green paid tribute to her in the days following her death in a statement, in which they said: "Jayne who is a mother, sister, daughter, and partner will be sadly missed by friends and family."

Cheshire Police has asked for anyone who witnessed the collision, or has dashcam or CCTV footage, to get in touch by calling 101, quoting IML 1960086.
