Live M1 updates as lorry crash blocks traffic near junction 30 with seven-mile queues

Traffic[1] on a busy stretch of the M1 in Derbyshire[2] is passing the scene after a three-vehicle crash involving a lorry. The motorway was closed southbound at Junction 30, with all four lanes closed following an incident which took place at around 3.30pm on Tuesday (November 19).

Images from the scene showed traffic building in the area while emergency services dealt with the incident. As of 4pm, a seven-mile queue of traffic had formed on the M1, backing up to Junction 31 near Aston, South Yorkshire.

A spokesperson for traffic monitoring service, Inrix, said: "The M1 southbound is blocked at Junction 30 (Worksop/Sheffield[3] South) following a crash involving a lorry and two cars. Congestion is building to Junction 31, with stationary traffic present in the area. Traffic was held by emergency services at around 3.40pm."

Traffic was allowed to pass the scene again at around 4.40pm.
