The person who died in a crash on the M6 was the male driver of a lorry in his 50s, police have confirmed.

The M6 was closed for almost 24 hours between junction 32 and 33 after a lorry travelling northbound crossed into the southbound carriageway, overturning in the process, and collided with oncoming traffic.

The incident happened at around 11.20am yesterday (6 November) with the M6 southbound still closed for resurfacing work.

Police said yesterday that a person had been killed in the crash and it is now confirmed that person was the driver of the lorry, a man in his 50s.

Two other people, the driver of a Ford Transit, a man in his 40s, and the driver of a Suzuki Swift, a woman in her 40s, suffered serious injuries.

A spokesperson for police said: “We are continuing to appeal for witnesses after a collision on the M6 motorway.

“Our thoughts are with all those affected at this time.

“Two lanes of the northbound carriageway are now open, and one remains closed. The southbound carriageway remains completely closed for surface repairs so please check before you travel as diversions are in place.”

Anyone who witnessed the collision or who has any information can call police on 101 quoting log 0564 of November 6th. You can also email the Serious Collision Investigation Unit at [email protected][9]
