M6 driver in Royal Stoke with ‘very serious injuries’

A motorist has suffered 'very serious injuries' after a smash between a truck and a car shut the M6. Police[1], firefighters and paramedics were scrambled to the southbound carriageway between junction 15 for Stoke-on-Trent South and junction 14 for Stafford North at around 1.25am this morning. National Highways was forced to shut the motorway as emergency services dealt with the crash. Today and paramedics say the driver of the car was taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital[2] with 'very serious injures' after being freed from the vehicle by firefighters.

West Midlands Ambulance Service sent one ambulance, a BASICS emergency doctor, and the Midlands Air Ambulance Critical Care Car following reports of a collision between a truck and a car. A spokeswoman said: "Upon arrival crews found a man who was the driver of the car, who was extricated from the vehicle by the fire service[3]. Once extricated, he was assessed by ambulance staff and had sustained very serious injuries.

Ambulance staff administered advanced trauma care to him at the scene. He was conveyed to the Royal Stoke University Hospital for further treatment. The driver of the lorry did not require treatment."
