M6 lorry crash leaves one dead and others with serious injuries

The M6 this afternoonA person has died as a result of a crash that has closed the M6 for several hours.
The M6 has been closed since around 11.20am this morning (6 November) after a lorry travelling northbound crossed into the southbound carriageway, overturning in the process, and collided with oncoming traffic.
One person has died as a result of the incident, police have now confirmed. A number of other people have been left with serious injuries.
National Highways: North West told Blog Preston that they expect the carriageway to remain fully closed in both directions between junction 32 and 33 until 4am tomorrow[5] (7 November).
Police are also asking for witnesses to the incident to get in touch when it is safe to do so.
A spokesperson for police said: “The collision involved an HGV travelling northbound which crossed onto the southbound carriageway and collided with a number of other vehicles.
“Very sadly the collision has resulted in one fatality and a number of other serious injuries. Our thoughts are with all those affected at this time.
“Emergency services remain at the scene and the motorway remains closed in both directions between junctions 32 and 33 while we continue to deal with the incident. The closure is likely to stay in place for some considerable time so please check before you travel as diversions are in place.”
