M6 remains closed after person dies in horror crash

On Wednesday (November 6), police were called to reports of a serious crash on the motorway, close to junction 33, between Lancaster and Preston.

The motorway was shut in both directions with tailbacks stretching for miles, after a HGV hit the central reservation and overturned.

Police confirmed that one person has died and a number of other serious injuries.[1]

The M6 northbound has reopened between junction 33 near Lancaster and junction 32 near Preston. The southbound carriageway remains fully closed.

Complex recovery and clear-up work is in place. The central reservation is also being repaired.

According to AA Traffic and Travel, there are severe delays of 30 minutes that stretch back to junction 34.

A spokesperson for National Highways said: “Complex recovery and collision clear-up work continues. The M6 northbound has reopened between junction and 33. One lane is closed for emergency central reservation barrier repairs.

“Southbound carriageway remains fully closed.”
