The M6 has been shut in both directions to the north of Preston.

Emergency services are on the scene including the Air Ambulance.

National Highways North West say the ‘serious collision’ has taken place shortly after 11.20am on Wednesday (6 November).

Both the northbound and sound bound carriageways are currently closed on the M6. A lorry is understood to have overturned across both carriageways – and a number of other vehicles are involved.

Traffic England is already showing delays building back from Junction 33 (Garstang) on the northbound side and from Junction 34 (Lancaster) down to Junction 33 on the southbound side.

The crash itself is close to the Junction 33 turn.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: “We’re currently at the scene of a full closure on the M6 inbetween Junction 32 and Junction 33.

“The motorway is closed due to a road traffic collision and we anticipate this will be closed for a number of hours.

“Thank you in advance for your patience.”
