M6 traffic: Motorway closed ‘for a number of hours’ after lorry overturns in horror crash
The M6 motorway[1] will be shut for a number of hours after a lorry was overturned in a horrific collision.
Traffic has been brought to a complete standstill on the M6 between J33 A6 Preston Lancaster Road (Lancaster South / Garstand) and J32 M55 (Broughton Interchange). Reports say that a crash in which a vehicle was overturned is the reason for the motorway being closed in both directions.
Those caught in the traffic have taken to social media to share images of the tipped lorry, which is covering a large part of the road and a part of the central reservation. Emergency services are at the scene, including the Air Ambulance, according to National Highways.
A spokesperson for Lancashire Police told LancsLive[2]: “We were called at about 11.20am to reports of a serious collision on the M6 motorway[3] close to junction 33. The motorway is currently closed in both directions while emergency services deal with the incident.

“We will release further information when we are in a position to do so.” Lancashire Police posted earlier in the day, saying they “anticipate this will be closed for a number of hours” while conducting their investigation.
The crash comes as thousands of fans of Preston football club will be travelling along the M6 to reach Sunderland, where the two teams will be kicking off at 8pm this evening. Fans took to social media to warn their fellow supporters to avoid the motorway due to the overturned lorry.
