Migrants cause motorway chaos as they flee broken down lorry on the M20: 11 are held after break-out that caused car to crash

Migrants caused chaos on the motorway this morning when they escaped a broken down lorry on the M20.

Eleven suspected migrants - both male and female - were travelling in a lorry but it ground to a halt near junction four.

A bright yellow Peugeot crashed in the process, which was later seen being taken away.

The incident caused 'mayhem' on the busy Kent Road at 10am.

The group were found on the hard shoulder and have been put in a Home Office[3] immigration enforcement facility in Folkestone.

One eye witness said: 'It was complete chaos.

'I was driving and saw all these migrants running all over the place.

'It's a miracle they didn't die. How on earth did this happen? It was insane.

'Where did the lorry come from?'

Another said: 'They were risking their life in there.

'They could easily have been run over. God knows how it happened.'  

A Kent police spokesperson said: 'At around 10am on 14 November 2024, officers located 11 suspected migrants on the hard shoulder of the M20 near junction 4. 

'They have all since been transferred to a Home Office immigration enforcement facility in Folkestone. 

'It is reported the migrants had been travelling in a lorry and enquiries are ongoing to locate this vehicle.'
