Overturned lorry crash shuts major motorway

A stretch of the M6 in Lancashire was closed after a lorry overturned, hit the central reservation and landed on the opposite carriageway crashing into the back of a car.

The motorway was shut in both directions between Junction 33 near Lancaster and 32 near Preston.

Police said the crash happened at about 11:20 GMT and emergency services including an air ambulance were at the scene.

National Highways said there were delays of at least an hour on the southbound carriageway and about half an hour moving northbound, and the road was expected to be shut for several hours.
