Picture of Shrewsbury lorry crash scene released after road closed for nine hours

A picture has shown the damage to two properties after a lorry crash earlier today. The A49 in Shrewsbury remains closed nine hours on from the collision.

The driver of the lorry was treated for potentially serious injuries at the scene at around 5.20am this morning (Monday, November 11). He was taken to hospital for further treatment, a spokesperson for West Midlands ambulance Service (WMAS) said.

A diversion has been put in place by National Highways West Midlands. They shared a picture of the crashed lorry on X just before 2pm and said: "The #A49 remains closed in both directions between #A5 #A5112 (at Dobbies Island near #BaystonHill #Shrewsbury (south) and #B4371 (#Churchstretton) due to a collision."

West Mercia Police were called to the area following the incident. A spokesperson for the force said: "We received a call around 5:20am this morning (11 November) with a report of a road traffic collision on the A49 between Lower Pulley Lane and Sharpstone Lane.

"Officers arrived to find a lorry had collided with two properties. The driver sustained injuries not thought to be life threatening. The road is likely to be closed for some time."

WMAS added: "We were called to reports of a lorry that had crashed into a building on Hereford Road, Shrewsbury at 5.27am. We sent two ambulances, two paramedic officers and the Midlands Air Ambulance Critical Care car from Cosford to the scene.

"On arrival crews found a man, who was the driver of the lorry, who they treated for potentially serious injuries and conveyed to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital for further treatment."
