Police appeal as biker dies after ‘series of collisions’ on Staffordshire road
Police[1] have launched an investigation after a biker died following a ‘series of collisions’ on a busy Staffordshire road. Emergency services – including two ambulances – were sent to the A5 in Tamworth last night where the dual-carriageway was shut off for several hours.
StokeonTrentLive reported[2] how paramedics say nothing could be done for one man who died at the scene of the smash while a woman was taken to hospital. Now Staffordshire Police[3] have confirmed further details of the tragic circumstances surrounding the fatal collision.
Investigating officers say they were called out at 7.15pm to reports of a collision between a blue Yamaha motorbike and a white Mercedes car on the eastbound carriageway – between Marlborough Way and Ventura Retail Park. Debris from that collision was said to have struck a white Vauxhall Adam on the westbound side.
A white Scania HGV was then involved in a collision with the stationary Vauxhall and the rider of the motorbike, who was said to be on foot at the time. The biker, a man in his 20s, died at the scene. Meanwhile the Vauxhall driver, a woman in her 50s, suffered ‘serious injuries’ and was taken to hospital.
A spokesman for Staffordshire Police said: “The driver of the HGV stayed at the scene and is assisting police with the investigation. We’re keen to speak to anyone who saw what happened on either carriageway or those with CCTV or dashcam of the area at the time.”
A spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service[4] said: “On arrival, crews found a lorry and two pedestrians had been involved in a collision. A man was receiving basic life support and ambulance crews immediately took over to administer advanced life support. Sadly, it quickly became clear that he could not be saved and was confirmed deceased at the scene. A woman was treated by medics for serious, but not life-threatening, injuries and conveyed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital.”
Anyone with information should call 101 and quote incident 611 of November 6. Alternatively e-mail the collision investigators directly on [email protected].
