A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We were called to reports of a collision involving a coach, lorry and car on the southbound M40, between junctions 16 and 15, at 1.19 pm. "One ambulance attended the scene. "On arrival, we discovered one patient, a man, who was the coach driver.

"He was treated for minor injuries and discharged at the scene." In a statement, Warwickshire Police said: "Our officers responded to reports of a collision involving a car, a lorry, & the coach of a well-known football team on the M40 southbound between J16 and J15. "Fortunately, nobody was seriously injured.

"The players from the team were not on the coach at the time." Real Madrid were in the UK for a Champions League match against Liverpool, having suffered a two-nil defeat last night. The crash caused delays of at least 45 minutes, with National Highways advising people to allow extra time for any journeys they need to make in the area.

All lanes have now reopened on the stretch of the M40.
