Taunton business opens up one month after opening up on M5

People were queuing up for hours in their vehicles last month (October 25), and many were unhappy with the long delays to their journeys caused by a lorry catching fire near Weston-Super-Mare. Spotting an opportunity to put some smiles on some faces after the incident, one of the members of the Dough Bros team Matt, opened up the Dough Bros van on the M5 motorway. "I was on my way to an event in Bristol that morning (the day of the M5 fire) and we were about 100 metres back from where they closed the motorway," said Matt. "We were in the thick of it.

"We ended up being on the motorway for around 3 and a half hours."

Matt is part of a three-man team behind the Artisan-style doughnuts created at Dough Bros. Matt is joined by the owner, Rick, and colleague Mike to help create the sweet treats.

Matt added: "After about an hour of sitting there, we were just in the back of the van cleaning and organising stuff and then people started to approach us and ask if they could buy a couple of drinks and snacks - and that's where it started to snowball. "We missed the event so we decided to open the side of the van as the products would've ended up in the bin or being wasted as we wouldn't have sold up. "We sold our doughnuts at a cheaper rate and managed to get rid of everything pretty much - hopefully we made people's day a little bit better."

As of December this year, Dough Bros has been running for three years, the business was trading under a different name for their first three months after "being born out of the Covid pandemic". Dough Bros used to hold a spot on Taunton's Station Road before moving to a new location in Bishops Lydeard. Matt added: "We moved out to our new premises in Bishop's Lydeard mainly because we can up our production scale and we are now able to get out to more events.

"This new base also helps us produce more consistent doughnuts of a higher quality." Dough Bros attend local food markets and festivals such as the Taunton Independent Market, Bridgwater Independent Market, Wellington[4] Produce Market and EAT Festivals. This year, they are running a '12 doughs of Christmas' event which they will feature at Christmas markets in Somerset.

This includes household favourites like 'Glazed Ring' and 'Biscoff Snowy Road' along with new doughnuts including 'Mince Pie and Custard', 'Mint Reindeer', and more.
